Hi all,

  Question is: as the Topic suggests;

How do I go about porting @IFA2 Missions over to ARMA 3?

Is it a simple process, or does it involve basically recreating the Mission for ARMA 3 after a de-pbo of the original?

Any pointers welcome.

P.S. If anybody would like to take this on, on my behalf, I'd be more than happy to hand over the keys (as it were) - Cheers!

Depends on the mission. Just try it

Some scripting is different; main issue can be different inventory/equipment handling and different AI behavior/capabilities

You mean just load the .pbo up into ARMA 3 and see how it pans out - I'll give it a go - Cheers!

That just hadn't occurred to me.
But while I thought about which of my missions I'd most like to see up in A3, I thought why not try some templates instead?
Partly it seemed (logically enough), there was a better chance of them working, and mostly there were some excellent IFA2 templates that would be amazing if they were available for A3.

Complete success!

So far 4 Vandevoorde 'Stalingrad style' templates (you may need the A3 version of @MAP_EU for these) are in my A3 editor without any hitches at all!

Can't thank you enough : -)

Hi my friend Foxsch....I say : Did you think with your head....[thumb].

The realization of "templates" with "RTE" on ArmA2 was really a game for children...For me...[crazy].

With new Arma3 programs is more difficult...[mad].

You just found the simple solution...[cool].

In French, said you is a "bollosse"....King, chief...........[thumb].

I now have 6 fully working Templates from the MR IFA2 Library.
They did need a little bit of revision. Nothing drastic; I removed the IFA2 Units and Vehicles (the empty and 'destruct' vehicles don't seem to cause any trouble), any IFA2 Modules and some other stuff. The ARMA3 @MAP_EU seems to cope well with 'becoming itself' from the ARMA2 version, and it seems the @IFA2/3 conversion took care of the rest [thumb]
I couldn't suggest otherwise but is cool with you if these 'revised-A3' Templates are made available for download?
The credit for them should stay where it belongs : -)

We need some of Vandevoorde's templates in IFA3, can you post some over from his mile long list i have on the MR, or is he going to create some new ones?
Tbh i never used any of his templates, are they basically a blank mission with just the trenches, building, objects, and what not,
and you just supply the infantry, and whatever?

The Templates are mostly buildings, barbed wire, sandbags and all of the other accoutrement of battle and battle area's.
Usually one, or possibly two units are placed, with which you can explore.
Sometimes, the template is added with several groups of units from opposing sides, way-point set to meet and engage, but if this is the case, they are normally marked as a 'mission.'
Vandevoorde has given permission for me to edit the templates and pass them up for download. They should still be listed as Vandevoordes' templates, I'll not be moving, changing, deleting, adding to or tampering with them in any way; other than remove the non-static elements.
These will be units, modules, markers (other than template-name and author markers), anything that may interfere with the transition from being launched in ARMA 3 rather than ARMA 2.
I can post them up here held inside a zip - and write a small piece about them at the Vandevoorde thread.
To use the template, while still being able to keep it, for future missions or just to explore; open the .pbo and extract all of it to your:

Quote:
C://**Your Computer**/Documents/ARMA 3 Other Profiles/Missions

Open the Game and go into the Mission Editor and load the appropriate Island and the template should appear in the list.
First thing is to create a new mission, add a player unit and save it, naming the mission in the usual way.
Then use the 'merge' function on the top bar of the editor window and choose the template.
It will paste the entire template into your mission, and you will still have a copy of the template for the future.

*Edit

Vandevoorde: Big City Winter Ivachev A3

Vandevoorde: Juno Beach D-Day Colleville A3

Requires:
@CBA3
@IFA3
@LIB_DLC_1
@GEIST
@MAP_EU [If you use Steam - Download the @MAP from:
http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=6194
and add it to your Mission Parameters by cross-platform to your local files within the Play withSIX interface.]

Enjoy :-)

Cool! Sounds good,
I will get those 2 templates Foxsch up on the MR friday morning, I have to much going on this morning to take care of it.
As for this thread since Foxsch you have your question/s answered about the port, and you and master Vandevoorde are working on stuff for IFA3 lets move the
discussions about it and anything you release to the existing thread:
http://ironfront.forumchitchat.com/post/missions-by-vandevoorde-pa-6349817?trail=195#181
If anyone else has any questions about porting something to IFA3 as per title of the thread this is the place to ask.
