Finally I've got my Retail version of Iron front (from UK).
I am very glad to dump that STEAM for good.

I have a few question regarding the installation.

1. Should I enter the KEY after installation, or after all patches are applied ?

2. Does the game run under Windows 8.1 well ?

3. Are there any precautions regarding activation ?

I am running Windows on my Mac Pro, and my Windows dedicated HD might be swapped between SATA2 Bay or Thunderbolt 2 interface.
Without any official support currently available I am worry that my game will get deactivated or whatever.

Thanks !

The game was designed to run on WIN 7.

Experts say it runs perfectly on WIN 8 and WIN 8.1

None of that means it runs on an Apple computer.

Install the game and run it.

Then install a patch and run the game then install the next patch and so on and so forth.

Joe98, thanks for info.
I will do accordingly: install -> run/activate -> patch -> run -> patch -> run  ...

There is no difference between your PC and mine.
Since Mac are INTEL based you can install directly WINDOWS 7 on any Mac Pro.
I boot my Mac with retail DVD of Windows 7 without any glitch.

Regarding activation, with STEAM I had to re-verify from time to time.
I had that stupid HARDWARE CHANGE warning due to swapping the hard drive.
My WINDOWS 7 does NOT complain about it, stays GENUINE as it should.

Will the activation of Iron Front be effected if I swap the drive ?

I've got the IF retail version (non-steam) on disk and it installed on my PC smooth as silk. I simply typed in the activation key (on the back of the paper manual) when it asked me to.
Patching went smooth as silk too, and the game runs fine under my Win XP.
(The manual says it runs under Win XP, Vista and Win 7)
The only glitch or bug that I experience is that the game sometimes freezes during play and I have to hit Ctrl-Alt-Del to get out of it, that also happens during Arma2 play but i can live with it.

Poor Old Spike, Why don't you switch to Windows 7 ?
I have NEVER experienced any freeze with STEAM release.
My guess would be that RETAIL rel. should behave the same.
It must be your OS, or DirectX drivers ( with DirectX 11 version game is very stable ! )

Thanks to all of you for input.
Sadly none answer my most crucial question regarding - how the a
ctivation of Iron Front is effected when HD is swapped ?

But it does not matter now, as I have already installed the game, and will swap the drive anytime.
I will see myself what's happen.

I am planning to test Iron Front on Windows 8.1 as well.
