Simple patrols

Download:
Simple Patrol 001-004.zip

Find attached 4 x single player missions.

Two of the missions you are a German commander.

Two of the missions you are a Soviet commander.

All 4 missions are played over the same area of the Baranow map.

For mission 1 and 2 all soldiers on both sides use bolt action rifles.

For mission 3 and 4 all soldiers on both sides use semi automatic rifles.

See diagram above. Note the circles are 1,000 meters diamater.

The German missions start on one of the blue dots at random. There are 20 dots.

You patrol to a point at random in the left hand circle.

Then patrol to a point at random in the right hand circle.

To finish, you patrol to one of the red dots at random. There are 20 dots.

Every time to play a mission the patrol route will be different!

The Soviet missions start on one of the red dots at random. There are 20 dots.

You patrol to a point at random in the right hand circle.

Then patrol to a point at random in the left hand circle.

To finish, you patrol to one of the blue dots at random. There are 20 dots.

Every time to play a mission the patrol route will be different!

For both commanders:

The enemy soldiers appear at random. They do not have a mortar in support.

There is yourself, 4 x riflemen, 1 x medic and 1 x mortar in support for a total of 7 men.

If you are killed the mission ends

If the medic is killed the mission ends

If the mortar man is killed the mission ends.

If any 2 x riflemen are killed the mission ends.

As soon as you spot the enemy, protect your medic, direct fire onto the enemy and then drop mortars on the enemy.

Mission 001 = German squad with bolt action rifles

Mission 002 = Soviet squad with bolt action rifles

Mission 003 = German squad with semi-automatic rifles

Mission 004 = Soviet squad with semi-automatic rifles

You have to upload your file to an external file hosting site, there are loads of free ones about and then put a link to the file on here.

Try dropbox, its pretty easy to use:
https://www.dropbox.com/

All you need to do is take your missions put them into a zip file, then open your dropbox folder, it will upload to dropbox server, and then you right click the dropbox icon on the taskbar,
launchdropbox website, go to the public folder, and then find your zip, right click it and then save public link and then post the link in your first post.
You get 2bg of free storage space to start with, any more then that then they ask you to pay for, i've had mine for about 2 years now.
Other then then i can host your mission for you too, but again you need to have a host already and send me a link so i can download it and host it on the MR.

I dont memorize anything, my browser puts all the info for me.
And for drop box I never need to login.
If you want to email me then, then submit through my site:

Joe submitting to the site is just that providing info of the mission, and a download link.
the submission isn't a contact form its to submit a mission, so I wont give you a reply, once you submit the mission then give me less then a day
or up to 2 days to get the mission listed on the site.
So its up to you, but on my site your mission will be seen by alot of people.

Currently my site averages 1gb worth of downloads a month, and considering your average mission is about 200kb-2mb, thats alot.

Anyways link here, or there I dont care up to you, but im willing to host  the mission if you want.
Just trying to support the Iron front community as I have done since Oct 2012.

To recap: in missions 001 and 002 all soldiers have bolt action rifles and hand grenades.  You have a mortar in support but the AI does not.

In missions 003 and 004 all soldiers have semiautomatic rifles and hand grenades.  You have a mortar on support but the AI does not.

In comparing missions 001 and 002  as opposed to 003 and 004, I find  001 and 002 could almost be patrols in October 1914!

In 001 and 002 there is typically a fire fight. You need to move your soldiers around to fire on the enemy.  Once the enemy is engaged drop mortars on them. If one of your soldiers is wounded, typically the medic can fix him up although you will lose men occasionally.

In 003 and 004 the theory is just the same.  However with the extra fire power, if a man is hit he is likely to be hit twice. In the heat of battle, the medic often cannot help till the firing stops. If a man is hit twice he has less chance of survival. In 003 and 004, losses are heavier.

In 003 and 004, the commander needs to use his binoculars often to search for enemy.  Then at a distance, fire on the enemy, pin him and then drop mortars on him.

It is useful to order your men to “Scan the Horizon” and they will use binoculars to do so.

In all 4 missions, from time to time, the 2 sides bump each other unexpectedly and you are too close to use mortars.   In missions 001 and 002, throw grenades, crawl backwards and then call the mortars.  In missions 003 and 004 this has never worked!  The firing is just too heavy! Instead throw grenades and expect causalities!

In all 4 missions, a general rule, I don’t know why it is but the German soldiers seem to have the edge.  When I command the German squad I generally bump the enemy, control my squad and drop mortars on the enemy and carry on to complete the mission.  (One time I felt over confident. I dropped mortars on the enemy but we were too close and got hit!)

When I command the Russian squads, the Germans tend to hit us with great firepower. I tend to lose more than I win!  Commanding the Russian squads is a great challenge!

When we spot the enemy I always order the medic to go prone and  find cover. Sometimes during the fire fight I order the medic to fix up somebody. The medic carries a pistol and not a rifle. Sometimes, rarely, the enemy is so close the medic starts firing with his pistol!

The enemy appear at random. In some missions you will see few enemy. In some you will spot enemy groups one after the other so you can engage them one at a time.  Sometimes you will meet 2 enemy groups at once!  I have not yet survived such an engagement.

I have now made some amendments to missions 001 – 004.  The new versions can be downloaded from the link in the top post.

All the missions started at 2:35pm.  The German missions now start at 3:30pm – 3 ½ hours after midday.  The Russian missions now start at 8:30 am – 3 ½ hours before midday.  The sun is relatively in the same position whichever side you play.

The missions end based upon criteria.  You now receive a message explaining the reason the mission ended.

I intended that each mission commence at one of 20 places at random.  I found that 20 is too many.  It almost feels that missions start at the same place!  Now there are only 11 places at random.  Each place has a very different look and feel in comparison to the other places so it really feels like a different starting place each time.

To end, again, I intended to have 20 places at random.  However there are only 6 ending triggers in the game!  The ending location is now at one of 6 places at random.  They are positioned so they certainly feel different to each other.

The mortars are now protected by a wrecked vehicle. He is less likely to be killed by a random enemy patrol.

Enjoy!
