I am working on a campaign that is loosely based on the operations of Das Reich at the Mius River in 1943.
The first mission is ready: the arrival of Das Reich at the Mius theatre (Baranow map) where they immediately jump into action.

I included Lennard's ss uniforms and vehicle skins of Joarius (Geist) as historical feature (In no way will I ever support or symphathise in any way with extreme right believes). That does make the download rather big, about 90mb, but for die hard ww2 fans I promise it will be worth it.

This mission is heavily scripted, but as some parameters were set at "random" the mission will always play out differently. Don't be disappointed if you fail to complete it first time; I believe this is a tough mission (as were the missions of DR in ww2), but I have managed to finish it eventually and I am not that good a player..

About the mission itself:
You are part of the DR recon battalion and were first off the train after transfer from Prokhrovka. Your mission is to capture a Russian checkpoint by surprise attack (speed is of the essence!) and hold it until reinforcements arrive. The mission will end if you fail (die), but I set no trigger for victory: If the reinforcements have arrived, the shootings stopped and you are still alive you have won. (I personally like to review the battlefield when finished; it will be quite a mess when you're done.) ;-)

Teaser: I have managed to script the ai stuka to actually dive and sound the horns of Jericho! And I fiddled with the destruction of t34's: keep your distance when destroyed, they were notorious for exploding if the ammo was hit.

Sometimes things do go wrong however; the ai drivers are terrible in urban environments and sometimes tanks get stuck. In that case you will have to improvise as did the grenadiers in the field in those days..

Special thanks to Joarius and Lennard for their outstanding skin mods; they motivated me to create this mission.
Also many thanks to all the IF and Arma scripters out there.

I hope you all have fun playing this.

NB: This mission was built in vanilla Iron Front, I have no clue if it will play in Arma2/Arma3 and, as I don't have either game, I cannot assist in making it work.

Cheers,

Panzerkeil

Would love to play the mission, but both downloads don't work.

Can you not use dropbox? Or ask Gunter to add it to the Mission Repository?

Have you also thought of a MP version for this?

thanks

1st link worked for me but its in kb, I know its an exe, 2nd link my antivirus gave me a warning on so i didn't go further.
Suggest you zip or rar the file, and use dropbox ---> https://www.dropbox.com/
or Gamefront --> http://www.gamefront.com/

Dont include any mods just link them as a requirement, keeps the download small, also if you are going to include them which i do not suggest as i have them
all on the MR already no sense of having multiple links with the same file, rar the file.

Excellent Mission - Thank You : -)

In case anybody is curious about playing it in ARMA 3 = absolutely no problems at all.
Just rename the extension to .pbo and away it goes.

[Also loads fine in the editor [thumb]

Any feedback on difficulty? Is the mission too easy/difficult?
Do players get stuck anywhere?

I'm halfway with the second mission (assault on Stepanovka) and would like to incorporate lessons learned if possible..

I didn't get stuck anywhere, and I did get through most of the Mission before getting killed (I got a bit too relaxed, wandering around without any thought for cover during the wait for reinforcements).
I think you've got the enemy / allied levels just right.
There was no lack of targets, but they weren't a particularly difficult opposition.

Thanks for the feedback Foxsch.
Indeed the capturing of the objective is not too difficult, it is the counter attack that follows that is challenging. [smile]

I will try to add challenging opposition in the next mission. ;-)

I have finally completed part 2. I think I have reached the limits of what the engine can handle (more then 500 units - not all spawned at the same time though, a huge smoke screen, FFIS script, tanks + infantry, air attacks, human wave attacks, artillery strikes, exploding tanks and vehicles, custom sounds, etc.)
The mission is slow to start (on my computer at least) because of the huge amount of units, but after 5-10 minutes the battle really starts going. The mission takes at least one and a half hour to complete (maybe someone else can do better?).  Many triggers are randomized so the battle is never exactly the same, also sometimes the AI take matters into their own hand and making strange decisions..

However, is there still interest in Iron Front single player missions?
This mission is not converted to Arma 3 (yet).
