Most important:

We do NOT endorse/recommend/encourage you to buy Iron Front the game at this point - do not buy it!
Please wait until a native Arma 3 version becomes available.

There are different perspectives to this. Let's get through them one by one:

1. Players

We have introduced the conversion approach as we wanted to keep the Iron Front project in the Arma universe alive. Due to the publisher there was no other way possible.
However since the introduction we have received many complaints from players failing in the complex conversion and patching process. It just has been a very frustrating experience for both us and interested players!

As a result we changed our approach now to deliver a simple one-modfolder approach easily available and to update (via Steam/withSIX/mega/etc).

Even the recent days have already shown this decision was correct and this has opened Iron Front to many new faces to try and enjoy!

2. Server admins

The initial preview was still compatible to the converted version. However since the first update, which significantly changes the mod, both versions are not longer compatible.
The scripted mine system has been replaced by A3 engine functionality, significant changes to weapon damage and behavior, as well as infantry hitpoints have happened.
This just means that a both fair and stable environment can no longer be guaranteed. And there is considerable more fundamental changes on the way.

If you are running a private COOP server:
For now mixing the old converted version and the new LITE version may still work.
Yet as more and more updates are happening, the less reliable and enjoyable the gaming experience will be.
You have been warned!

3. Developers

To be very direct and frank it comes down to two main points:

1) To maintain multiple version adds a lot of effort we are no longer willing to invest.
We are focusing now fully on the new version, leaving old restrictions and limitations behind to achieve the best results possible in the Arma3 engine.

2) From the IF game sales only the publisher (Deep Silver) and the producer (X1Software) benefit - not BI (engine provider), nor AWAR (original developers) nor do we.
Given the very questionable role the first two parties have played, we have been looking into ways to get away from them and to be able to get Iron Front back into the Arma platform natively.
Unfortunately the legal and ownership situation is complicated, yet we are still trying to find a solution. Be patient with us!

Summary:
We ask you to see our Arma 3 project as a new attempt to bring quality WW2 into Arma and to support us with your feedback, your own content and by playing the mod.

Thank you for your attention!

Good information kju.
See I'm still not getting it, if Deepsilver and X1 basically own the game, and you are saying that only they benefit, and not Awar and Bis as they had
their hand in it which I dont quite get why they are not getting some monies from the sales considering Awar built the game, and its Bis's engine the game is on,
is it a matter of contract or something you guys are working out in terms of acquiring the ownership of IF?

Did you mention to me before that the contract for DS has 5 years and its soon to expire which opens the possibility of you guys,
maybe bis of getting their hands on it.

So getting IF into the Arma platform natively would mean that it would be reacquired by new owners namely you guys and or Bis,
and rebuild or reconfigure it so that it can be modded, but not just modded so it can be updated, and run with arma3?
Something like that or close?

I still own a copy of IF and DLC, that i can gift someone, i bought it last year for like $3 when it was on sale, or should i get a refund now?

I would suggest linking this thread to your IFA3 Lite thread here and on Bis forums.

As for me, I can't follow in full detail what's going on now. May be it's my language barrier.
So please let me ask a few questions:
Do I understand it right that my bought versions of IFL44 and D-day DLC are more or less worthless now?
Will the coming native version use some of their contents or can I throw them away?
What about all my selfmade scripts, fsm and models. Will they work in the native version?

@ finzel
You are welcome. [smile]

@ Gunter Severloh
BI got screwed over. One of the reasons for their position towards DS+X1.
AWAR got paid for the development/work. Only for good scores they would have gotten a bonus. This is usual game development standard AFAIK.

Currently we are determining if X1 owns fully the content. If so, we could find an agreement that doesn't include DS.
Otherwise it doesn't look good or we have to wait for the contract to run out (mid 2017).

As for your second part - this is what we are trying to achieve. Read the preview release post again with your new understanding.

No idea if you can still refund after that time. In any case IF game can still be used to play the game itself, or to play the campaign in IFA2,
or IFA2 in general. I would guess there are certainly still people that would find use in that.

The statement is also posted in BIF, and will on Steam too. It will be linked to from the release thread as well.

@ BRS
Lets be clear - as far as I can remember and tell, we have never recommended to anyone to buy the game. You should understand by now why we didn't.

As for it being worthless now, that is for you to decide. I would assume that you already have gained a lot of value from the game over the time you owned it.

In simple terms the native version will be just a HQ texture+sound pack to the new LITE version (if things work out as we imagine it).
Aside from the namespace/prefix and path+filename changes we have made in the new version, that can be easily adjusted with the moveObject tool from mikero,
everything should still work made for IF game/IFA2/IFA3 conversion (not speaking of A3 engine changes ofc that need their own adjustments).

Does that information help?

This piece of information is exactly what we need to hear :-) I know there has been questions around whether the new version will mean only low res units, whereas most who own the original obviously want to still play with Hugh res version of units.

Could there be provided a short step by step here on the forum how to use the moveObject tool for IFA3 to IFA Lite?

Also, is the lite version at a state where this can already be done?

kju, reading the first sentence of your answer, it seems to me that someone must have hurt you badly in the past with this.
My question about 'Throw away now' was not an accusation, it was a question! Sorry if this wasn't clear enough asked. Peace [wink]
Thx for your info!

Good info and thanks for sharing Kju.
I'd like to suggest removing "LITE" from the name and replace it with "Standalone", "SA" or similar.
Current name seem to cause some confusion.

One small request, could you set magazineReloadTime to the same as reloadTime? As is now I can fire rounds at 60 rnds per minute.
(this is probably the wrong place to make a request but will have to do for now)

While the process is fairly simple, it requires fairly indepth knowledge.
So for now I am porting assets for Gunter, Joarius and a few others. As such a guide is probably not necessary.

agreed. will happen in time.
for new players there is just IFA3 LITE anyway.

magazineReloadTime to the same as reloadTime
needs more details

Thanks. So if I understand what you write correctly, there is no need need for each of us to port our high res units as you are for example porting GEIST which practically means his high res units will be part of the package?

Will there also be high res vehicles and terrains available?

Thanks again for your answers, and sorry for the bombardment of questions. :-)

Kju. Thank you for IFA3 light. I have tried it and its very good. Also thank you for taking time to explain the current and future situations for those of us whom are paid owners of Iron Front Lib 1944 and have been using the converted content in Arma 3. I look forward to using the IFA3 in any format, high or low res'.

Hello there

Whilst it is a shame that the old IFL conversion has come to an end, I can completly understand why.

I am glad I was a tiny part of the periphery of feedback to the project.

But although to some players the new Preview version may seem a step backwards IMHO its a huge step forwards.

Player numbers on the new 1944 severs show this to be true.

I have great faith and hope for the future of IFL now.

Its taken a while, im sure we can all wait a little longer.

In the meantime, gunther, get on with your compilation mod compatability! I need my motorbikes!
