Aargh, I upgraded my PC from Win XP to Win 7 a couple of weeks ago and now Iron Front won't work, it slideshows, jerks and stutters and is completely unplayable!
It says on the IF box that it's supposed to work with Win 7, so I can't understand why it won't.
My Microsoft Flight (a Win 7 game) also jerks and stutters under Win 7.
My Arma3 runs under Win 7 but only just, it's still a bit jerky even on low video settings.

These are my system specs, can anybody spot something in there that Win 7 perhaps doesn't like?-

Processor: Intel(R) Core (TM) 2 Duo CPU E8500 @ 3.16GHz (2 CPUs), ~ 2.8GHz
Memory: 4096 MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 (1024 Mb)
O.S: Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601)
BIOS: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG
DirectX 11
HannsG HL249 24" LCD monitor

PS- Why is there a "Program Files" directory AND a "Program Files (x86)" directory in Win 7?
I've tried installing IF to both but it still won't run.

Hi Spike,
Program Files is for 64 bit programs while Program Files (x86) is for 32 bit programs.  If you can you will want to upgrade your amount of ram since 4gigs is at the low end for windows 7 64 bit.

When I'm running Iron Front my whole system is using around 6 to 7 gigs of ram but I do have other things running.  That's not saying Iron front is using that amount of ram, it can't because it's a 32 bit program and is limited to 4 gigs.  I believe win 7 uses 1gig plus sitting idle and will use more if it's available.  There are things that you can do to squeeze more out of your system, such as disabling services you don't use but upgrading would be the best choice.

My system specs are as follows :
Windows 7 64 bit Pro
Cooler Master HAF 932 case
Asrock P67 Extreme4 Gen3 motherboard
Intel Core i7- 3770K and water cooling
16 Gigs G.SKILL Sniper Series system ram
EVGA GeForce GTX 680 FTW w/backplate 4GB
3x500GB WD Hdd
Headset from my PS3 (which hasn't been turned on in over a year) Turtlebeach P11
Blue Yeti Mic

Recording software is Action!
Video Editor-Sony Movie Studio Platinum

Thanks guys, vids and other stuff runs fine, its just games that Win 7 doesn't seem to like.
I just updated my nvidia drivers but it hasn't helped, so I might have to update all my other drivers too.
Anyway my PC is about 5 years old and I've been thinking of buying a new more powerful one, i might go down the shop and get a quote..[smile]

I would have a look for these parts:

GIGABYTE GA-Z77-D3H, Mainboard 99,90€
Intel® Core™ i7-3770K 299,00€
Gainward Geforce GTX 770 Phantom 299,00 (2GB)

And may be this one would be a good PowerSupply: Enermax Modu87+   ~135€

I5 or  I7?
As far as I know these three parts above will  play together with PCI 3
so your new grafic card will be used the best. I5 can't use the PCI3 but I'm not 100% sure with that.
Have a look yourself if I'm correct.
Look careful if all parts may play together,
if you motherboard can handle CPU and RAM types.
Sometimes you need to update the motherboard BIOS first before it can see you brandnew CPU.
But how to do this if the CPU is not yet working with your board for now?
May things to thing over -before- buying. Needs a lot of research [smile]

Get the best you can for your budget.

As for RAM make sure all the RAM sticks are of the same brand and same type. The experts say its a good idea.

Thanks guys, meanwhile it's a pity I can't get Iron Front to run on my old PC, do you think a virus or malware /adware/ spyware is to blame?
I've only got AVG at the moment, this is its opening screen.

Do you think it's giving me enough protection or should I also install a program like Adaware and run a scan?

Sounds like there was something wrong with your install of Win 7, if the games played better before the install. Did you do a fresh install of all games and win 7 or just updated to win 7?

I would use a free registry cleaner ( CCleaner and/or Winaso) and another free adaware program like Spybot or Adaware or even Malwarebytes is very good.

Have you tried Gamebooster to help you run the games? It shuts down all unnecessary programs from running and might help with the stutter.

Your videocard sucks, sorry. Maybe try upgrading that first and see, then go form there.

If all else fails, throw money at it until the problem disappears lol.

I had a similar issue like Spike, only difference was that it was not IF1944,but another steamgame.
I was still member of a simracing teamand had just bought a new pc.
And therefore Simbin´s GTR2 and RAce07 restricted their work under All circumstances.
Must have been a hardware conflict, but as usual all errorcodes suggested that you are a total idiot.
After nearly suffering a stroke and a barrage of selfaccuses i took my money backk
(Whom should you give 2000bucks and let him find the one and only malfunctioning pc out of 1000s...)
The dealer had already lost my trust in him as he made several mistypes when entering my name in Win7.
"Gerhard Lehmann" is a name which should be not to unusual, maybe that the dealer
was a native bavarian, then calling me Adolf Wurstschnitzel would have been better...
But innitially i´m in duty as a "IFR-MP"!!!I´m underway to watch for team-members without specific orders/goals andas a real "Kettenhund"  i´m not kindly asking Priv.Spike and Priv.Evil for their suppport when they ever have finished their hardware discussion.Think of a insane barking Kraut with  a foaming mouth and an overall behaviour of an ape tribe´s leader...But as i´m at my job and the breakfast is over i will pm you both this evening.Dismissed.

Thanks, but can anybody tell me how do we know if a prog is 64 bit or 32 bit? Does it say on the box or in the manual somewhere?
I don't want to accidentally install a wargame or flight sim into the wrong folder and mess up my system.
