Hi there !

I am workin on a machinima with the Iron front for arma 3.
My first issue is that all the soldiers got the exactly same face (Ru and Ger), in the scenarios, campaigns and same when i am playin with the editor.
Is there a way to random these faces ?

Hi Tomz, Although I am not exactly sure that the IF for ARMA 3 set-up will be any different in any respect; but the faces of Units has usually been set with the use of setIdentity [ cfgIdentities ] in the description.ext file of your Mission. I am sure with a little scripting, these identities can also be randomized on load Mission in the init.sqf.

np ~ Good Luck! It isn't a difficult thing; just need a little care matching the units you have in the editor to the cfgIdentities in the description.ext

Damn, looks like the face of IF factions is pretty locked on my side.

The codes aboves worked for the NATO or CSAT units i've placed on my scenario, they also spawned already with random faces
Is this issue only occured to me ? Do you guys can spawn in the arma 3 editor some groups of IronFront factions (Russ, ger, us) with random faces ?

And sorry for my bad english [wink]

the codes i've tryed :

- SetFace command in the unit's init (in editor) with the Arma 3 face like :
soldier1 setFace "WhiteHead_02"

- I've tryed to change one by one my unit faces by the description.ext
as this exemple :

I wish I could help more with this; but I have been grounded to a laptop - no Steam or Gaming access for nearly a week now. Cannot expect to get back into game until the weekend - my PC has been in the repair shop [frown]
What did puzzle me reading your post was the '"randomize" in the init.sqf' method you're trying? I realise that that was maybe from my suggestion, but I do not have any script to hand that would achieve this. I was hoping someone with more scripting knowledge would come forward with a method of achieving that.
Is the random feature absolutely essential?
Often the workaround stems from looking at what your trying to do from a different perspective? In this instance, you have only specified two identites in the description.ext (I assume from your post) and yet you are trying to randomize these two identites across the board - whole factions.
Would it not be (utimately a lot of manual editing I admit) just as effective, if not more so, given that you can radically extend the number of identities in the description.ext, to just add:

soldier1 setFace "WhiteHead_02"
soldier1i setFace "WhiteHead_02i"
soldier1ii setFace "WhiteHead_02ii"
soldier1iii setFace "WhiteHead_02iii"


and so on, in a random way, i.e. just adding unit identity to units init placed in the mission randomly?
Obviously this method is not possible if you are spawning the majority of your units in mission -

No you're right, that's not essentiel, I v'e just need some differents faces for some close up shots; If i can get the germans and soviets faces using only the "whiteheads" from A3 that could be perfect ( so exactly as you stated, not using all faces)

Yeah i think this (youre method) would have more chance of success ! I am not spawning units during mission, only in editor (Maybe i could give an eye on MCC sandbox or ZEUS if there is a SP editor save available)

I've probably an other solution since .kju posted all the codes for IF uniforms(in A3) , which is probably the longest to do but could work :

Place an arma 3 unit in the editor, and change all his gear by the Ironfront's ones, so i could use the default A3 random faces with the IF gear.

I am gonna Copy/post the Kju.'s post in the mission editing section since i think this could be helpfull for IF Arma 3 mission making :

PS : This seems to be a general problem with IF in Arma 3, i've just watched a video from someone using Iron front on Arma 3, and it appears that all the faces in his video are exactly the same i've got. Only his friend during the video got an other head (due to multiplayer/character face setup)
