When mission-building I'd often like my groups to begin the game already in a Formation, usually 'Line', and after searching the net I found this to type into the Init field of an infantry group leader or tank platoon leader-

this setFormation "LINE"

but when the game starts they're NOT in line, they're in default Wedge formation and they scurry to get into Line, and all that movement blows their cover and attracts enemy fire!
So what I'm looking for is a code or script or something that will place them ALREADY in the desired Formation when the game begins so they won't have to run about.

You need to give the group a name.  Then you set the group formation.

In the init of the group leader set the group name.  To name it razor would be:   razor = group this.

Then, I place an ammo box on the map.  In the init of the box set the formation of group razor:   razor setFormation "DELTA"

I too see this.   It happens in Arma2, Operation Arrowhead and Iron Front.

So it must be a bug in the Arma2 engine.

The most basic way to do what your asking is with waypoints.
If you put a group down and then give the leader a waypoint, only set the waypoint formation, and then put the waypoint
very close to the position of the leader, the infantry and or tanks will start in the desired formation at start.
Test it you will see that it works.

Thanks mate, that's cracked it, yes the trick is to place the waypoint on top of the leader..
