Anyway games would be boring if the bots behaved predictably all the time..

I know it's offtopic, but as you talk about AI I venture to ask a question here (always wanted to start topic "Coop vs PvP" on this forum but never did)

Most IF fans understand that AI (bots) is a weak enemy, and they are usually predictable. But if we'll look at the number of players competiting AI (playing single or coop), this number much more then number of PvP players. Personally I saw a lot of IF fans who love PvE and just don't interested in PvP at all.
So here is my question: what is the main reason?

Is that becouse players prefer weak enemy? Or maybe becouse PvP missions/servers on IF not good enough? People afraid to kill "real" person even virtually(I heard this version)? Is that becouse lack of active players for PvP missions?

I really trying to understand this phenomenon. All games I ever played (especially 10..15 years ago) I dreamed to play against real players instead of AI.

Coop

Are there any more?

PvP = Players vs Players
PvE = Player vs Environment (= Player vs AI)
Coop = Cooperative = Group of players vs Environment

Yes, there is a lot of other abbreviations for multiplayer games. CTI, CTF, DM, TvT and so on.

Okay thanks,no wonder noobs and me get confused with all them abbrevs, i still don't know what most of 'em mean!
Anyway here's my take on the whole situation-

This is a screenshot of the IFL44 Multiplayer screen taken 30 minutes ago at 6:40 pm on a Thursday evening, showing 13 online non-password games that we can jump straight into and start playing without any hassle. Most of the games are humans v AI bots.

Here's a close up shot of the games list taken a couple of minutes later,we can choose which one to join (numbers fluctuate constantly as people join and leave).
There are 20 players in the second in the list if we fancy that one, or we can join one of the others with fewer players in them.
The vast majority in the list are non-hardcore which means they're "fun" games at low difficulty levels, but you can choose to join a hardcore game at higher difficulty levels if you like.
Whatever type you join, you can leave any time and try another for any reason, for example you might not like the map, or not enough tanks, or too many enemy bombers, or it's night etc.

Okay here's my point- all those human v AI bots games are there for everybody and they're easy to join which is why they're so popular!

But if we want to play human v human group games it's more complicated for the following reasons-
1- we have to ask around forums to try to find a group that'll let us join them.
2- some groups only play about once a week.
3- some groups don't speak English
4- some groups insist you have a Teamspeak microphone
5- some groups only play hardcore
6- you might not like the missions they play
7- because of time differences, groups might play at a time that's not convenient to you

Believe me, I'd like to play human v human, but the only reason I don't is because such games are hard to find. Oh and I don't play hardcore..[wink]

id say the best for ifl44 would be a pvE
Usually a PvE mode can be played alone, with human companions or with AI companions
thats if a player can join any side he likes the AI's go down as human join that side.
so when a player has time to play he can go at it with out wait to see if a human joins the other side.
we all know how much fun playing 1 on 1 is.
users would play this hardcore or not .(i know why you need hardcore for the map)
but i dont see any servers with this kinda game play in ifl44.
in other games more play this kinda game play then others game play.
looks to me .
i dont see to many player when i have time to play.
