Am trying to replicate a major tank battle using the Staszow map.  Am creating markers for the actual towns.  Is there any way to get rid of the names that come with the Staszow map for towns?  Thanks

PS Been working Invasion 44 and Hell in Pacific for past three months, now that I am starting my new IF44 series, forgot how rich the IF44 environment and Russian and German models look.

Shpagin you should ask about removing the names for towns on maps on BIS forums, theres a couple of guys I know of that could tell you how to remove them,
but I believe the thing is you would need to edit the actual map itself and that cant be done through the regular editor.
For the names look up Bushlurker and icebreaker, those two modders make, and have made maps many maps before for the Arma series,
but I'm not sure in general if its possible to have a script where the names can be hidden, as i think and im not sure on this but map names have somehow
a navigational part to them, its part of the grid system, or coordinates on the map set for the map by the person who built it.

For Iron Front maps the problem with this is the only way to edit those maps as said is to open them in an visitor O2 editor i believe again not sure,
but the issue with IF is that the maps like all the other content in the game is well... locked down, hence no modding, so that means that changeling,
or removing the names of maps would in essence be modding the map, which isn't allowed and is protected
by 3 layer deep configuration files and or signature checks ect,.

Maybe one of the guys on the IFR team could better explain or help.

Have a look at these scripting commands, they MAY help you, I am not sure, if they don't, it is likely you would have to open the maps up and delete them from the .pew file, which you are not allowed to do.

Thanks will give it a shot.  It is just the existing names conflict with the town markes I am using to try to portray this huge battle.

Im wondering if you could also create a marker that you can put over the names on the map, thereby covering them up?
It might not look good but just a simpler idea.

It may be possible to just put a black marker over the name and cover it up in the editor, and then add another name nearby, BUT it would block out the view of the map below the marker.

Yes I tried that, but it does not look as good as I would like.  But will have to do.  Thanks

From Bis forums:
I just happen to run into this while doing my usual forum patrol lol
there was a member that asked about editing an existing map, and pmc snakeman answered with this:

Quote:
You use PMC Editing Wiki: ArmA 2 Tools - ConvertWRP to get PEW out of the WRP file and then edit it with Visitor 3.
Here is PMC Editing Wiki: WRP to PEW Guide which helps you out.

As i said earlier the content for iron Front is locked down, this means no modding is possible which includes alterations to maps.
Thing is, if you were able to change the map, then when you release your missions, you would also have to release the new version of the map just for your missions,
and Statzow itself with all needed files is 958Mb, plus add your missions to that number, so your looking at possibly a 1gb or more just for missions.
So ideally using markers would be the best way.
