I was checking over a couple of missions prior to putting them onto the Mission Repositry when i came by this quite by accident.(Below)
What it does is when a Flare is fired turns night into day so allowing the AI to react as they would normally.Given the fact that two of the three missions that i was going to post take place at night it interested me greatly.
My question is this:Has anyone used this?And What "tweaks"would  i have to do to change it to IF,(my ability to move around files and make "surgical"changes is unfortunately very limited).

I used flares in my Mortain and Tarawa series.  But your post raised a good question.  I had assumed that a flare would increase not only players ability to see but also the AI.  Your post on that script suggests you need a script to enable the AI to benefit from a flare as the players do.  I will check it out this weekend and see if it makes a difference in the AI fighting.  Thanks for posting it.

Its a pleasure.From what i have understood is that for the AI it does actually turn night into day when a flare is fired.So they can actually SEE!!And react as if it was daylight-for the duration of the flare.As i said before it was written for Arma,as a means of bringing a certain balance to forces without night fighting vision and blinding thise with it.I would be more than happy to do all work changing the script to work for IF but i DO need guidance on what to actually DO.I hope that made sense!

come to think of it, I could never get flares to work in my IF44 scenarios. 

Tried using this round with the script i have been using successfully in Arma 2:

lib_1Rnd_flare_white

but does not seem to work.


Anyone know if this is the proper flare round to spawn flares?

Hi there shpagin,
I don't know if this is what you were refering to,but here is a script that tay-uk gave me to put into the act line of a trigger.

flare1 = "F_40mm_white" createVehicle [(getmarkerpos "marker1" select 0),(getMarkerpos "marker1" select 1), 150]


or this is to make (in this case the unit ger1)fire there flare pistol when passing through a waypoint,

ger1 fire "LIB_FLARE_PISTOL";

The actual flares class name i have is;

 "LIB_1Rnd_flare_white";

or you can use "green" "red" etc.

I think that's answered your question.

Thanks, the "F_40mm_white" was the title of the munition I needed to use in the script I used in arma2.

Worked great. Thanks.


Now that I have the flare working, will check out that script on AI effectiveness with flares.  Will let you know how it works out later.

ok, I now understand what you are doing with your script. Downloaded and read the readme file. Would not work for me because my scenarios are usually PvP.  But can see that this would be great script for anyone doing a Coop scenario where you want the AI to have access to flares as well as the player team.

But thanks again for helping track down the right name for the flare munition in IF44.
