Hi, I have placed an AI Unit at a number of 'random' spawn points in a mission by grouping him with a number of empty markers. Once he spawns he will not move. What I need is for something to trigger when a player, not just a playable unit, gets within a small radius around him. Anybody know how can I do this?

I hope I did understand your question well..
if so, try this:

a) place a trigger anywhere on the map

b) Name that trigger i.e. Test_trigger

c) set trigger activation to anyone

d) inside trigger condition field write: vehicle player in thisList

e) inside trigger activation field write the things you want to do.
In my example I just wrote: hint "function"

f) set the trigger radius and trigger once or forever

Now the next is just for the test, you have to do the same with your spawned ai unit:
I placed an AI soldier on the map and  inside his INIT field I wrote : Test_Trigger setpos getposATL this
This will move the one and only trigger to the position of your AI unit. You say it will not move, so it's not needed to move the trigger more than once.

Now, if you as player will go into the selected radius you will see the message,
or your wanted action will be released.
To test this out I would suggest just to work with that test message first.
