Hey,

I love making missions in Arma 2 and I was waiting for Iron Front 1944 to be released because I love the eastern front from a history aspect. After I read that there was no mod support and alot of unfixed bugs I decided not to buy it. After lurking in this forum for a while and reading alot of positive comments about the game Ive started thinking about buying this game again. My biggest concerns are:

1. Ive read that the AI in IF1944 is alot shittier than vanilla Arma 2 and since I will only be making single player missions, this is a huge concern for me. Is this true? Can it be fixed with some third party scripts? I seriously dont want jump in to my first mission and see the AI just standing there doing nothing.

2. If the game is fully patched, how stable is it? Does it crash often? Does the DDAY DLC add any more fixes to the eastern front part?

3. Will I get the same patches and possible future mod support if I buy it off steam, rather than a hard copy?

If you love Arma 2, you should enjoy Iron Front. It would be great to have some more well made Historical missions for the game. There are still bugs, the same as Arma 2 still has bugs. They have not really affected my enjoyment of the game. (There was one major bug that did, though is now fixed, search for pumkin faces ). I wouldn't worry about lack of mod support , there is plenty of content in there already.

1: I mostly play online Coop. The AI still quite often surprise up and take us down. I would say they are still fairly advanced for the game. There are mods that work in Arma 2 to make the AI even better, that currently wont work in Iron Front. But the AI that is there is enjoyable (to me at least).

2: In the past 9 moths I've had maybe 3 crashes, normally due to a mission I was playing / creating. Not sure on D-Day DLC fixes. However if you have the DLC installed, and create a mission, it seems non-DLC owners are unable to play it. Could just be the way we made our missions at SimHQ.

3: Yes you should. May not be any future patches though... I've always favoured non-steam version of Arma based games myself. Hard copy still requires DVD in drive to play. There are also site like GamersGate and Green Man gaming that do digital.

Game is quite stable. But it has few arma2 bugs like you can be killed by the bush or door... you know.

I have 3 games installed:

Operation Arrowhead / BAF / PMC

Arma2

Iron Front 1944

All use the same game engine.

All use the same editor.

All are fun to play.

The 2 main maps of Iron Front are better than the maps of Arma2/ OA./ BAF/PMC (Exception: I love the Proving Grounds map of PMC).

Iron Front uses WW2 weapons and equipment which makes it different to Arma2/OA.

Not better or worse just a different flavour.

Iron Front and it’s DLC is, to summarise, Arma2 with 5 new maps and whole bunch of new weapons and equipment.

Well worth while.

Hello Assayks, Welcome to Iron front Fan Forums home of the IFR team!

Iron front uses Arma2CO's engine, so the Ai are really not that bad. My last encounter with them was i was pinned behind this small hill while Russian soldiers (no move waypoints, just grouped and set to guard)
, started overrunning my position, flanking me, shooting from behind the trees, amazingly I had survived, when i got up there were bodies all around me and on top of the hill in front of me, so no the AI will kick your ass if you use the right waypoint types, and other things.

I've had no issues with the game, other then like Fudge said creating crazy missions with to many scripts, and many other things, but it runs pretty good.

No it doesn't, the DLC is the expansion of Iron front to the Western theater of the war.
However our IFR team working on a mod, and many fixes, and related projects, the game will see a major expansion to both Eastern and We
stern fronts,
as well as a couple of other things outside of the mod that will really get Iron front back on its feet.

For more information on our mod, see our main thread here:
http://ironfront.forumchitchat.com/post/Iron-Front-Revival-Mod-Project-6253251?&trail=15
The first post lists many tanks, guns,a dn infantry we will be adding to the game in a beta patch possibly to release by September cant say for sure atm.
The list is not final, theres alot missing, and theres still alot for us to do, I'm planning on updating that post sometime soon with some more info, but atm we
cannot reveal alot of things like how we are able to mod the game, as well as post screenshots and such,
any questions you have about the mod use that thread.

No, wouldn't waste your time with steam, your best bet is as Fudge suggested: greenman gaming or gamers gate, but for some more options with links review this thread:

We are trying to support the game here you know, thats what IFR is all about Iron front and DLC, get your priorities straight Career,
everyone has their preference but the DLC isn't bad, it may have some bugs, none that I have seen, and it may not have the
amount of vehicles, and infantry units ect,. and maps that Iron Front has but considering that the game practically went dead a
month after the DLC release what do you expect.

Expect it from IFR though, we have expanded Iron front and the DLC, and are still adding to it, as well as fixing various aspects
in both game and expansion (DLC).

Both games have very high quality models and maps, its worth the buy, and if you need missions:
http://www.missionrepository.com/
My Mission Repository has 185 of them, old, and new, campaigns, ect,. and after IFR releases its mod with tons of new content then I'd expect
more missions releasing with the new content in the missions, it will be interesting to see.

I like the Omaha DLC!

It brings a new map, and a whole bunch of new weapons and vehicles.

Thanks for all the replys. I think im going to buy it from gamersgate next month.
I personally think that the omaha dlc is useless considering that I have invasion 1944 mod with tons of more content.

Yeah it only costs peanuts so you've nothing to lose..
In fact it's so good that I bought it twice (below) from Amazon at 12 GB pounds (18 US dollars) each on boxed disks.
One is a spare backup but I might give it to a friend or relative to get him interested in the game.
Incidentally I always prefer buying games on boxed disk (if i can) rather than by download, because a disk is forever..

PS- if I were you I'd also get the D-Day DLC (peanuts again but only available by download) because it simulates how the US won the battle of Normandy with a tank force consisting mostly of just Sherman 75mms.
I've got it and the trick is to use masses of Shers in 'swarm tactics' to get into the thin side/rear armour of German tanks and hit them from all sides with 'hail fire', for example even if you don't get penetrations on Tigers they can still be turned into crippled hulks when their tracks have been ripped off, their engine shot to pieces, one or two crew members killed or wounded and their gun and turret jammed by repeated hits, great fun..
Also, AI tanks won't drive through hedgerows (bocage) and will look for roads and gaps, so a major tactic is to cover all gaps with fire, great fun again..
